Translations

Translations is a collaborative installation made with Charlotta Öberg during EUNIC’s two-week Exchange Rate residency in Bangkok. We embroidered poetry in Swedish, Tagalog and English onto a curtain, bringing our native languages and our shared language into one fragile surface.

The fabric also became a screen for moving images of Bangkok. Words, thread and projected street scenes overlap, allowing visual experience to sit beside language. We explored the fragments of meaning that shift or disappear in translation, and the unexpected closeness that can emerge while trying to understand one another.

The work was exhibited at Galerie Oasis from 7–9 October 2022, as part of Exchange Rate.
